Supervision

Supervision is a formal process in which a qualified or trainee psychotherapist or counsellor regularly reviews their client work to a designated supervisor as a way of enhancing their practice through careful reflection on the process.

Supervision Groups

Group Supervision can bring multiple benefits along with multiple perspectives and experiences.

The value of good supervision

The primary purpose of supervision is to ensure the efficacy of the therapist’s psychotherapy practice which, in turn, will enable a therapist to work towards the best possible psychotherapy practice for their clients.

Here at Therapy Nottingham, we work as psychotherapists within a relational and developmentally focused integrative approach. You can read more about our Integrative approach to psychotherapy here. This is reflected in how we work as supervisors.

Choosing a Supervisor

Similar to choosing a psychotherapist, your relationship with your supervisor is an important consideration. You need to trust your supervisor, be honest with them, and not just celebrate the successes but also bring the parts of yourself and your practice that you are less proud of, less certain of, or perhaps ashamed of. This is how we learn and develop our practice.

Video / online supervision sessions

We believe that Integrative psychotherapy has the greatest potential as an in-person service, which is our primary provision. Aligned with this, we also prioritise providing supervision in person. This is not to say that working online can not be effective, but we recognise the limitation placed on a relational experience by working this way.

In some instances, it may not be possible for in-person sessions to take place (for example, due to Covid restrictions) so working online remains an option which you can discuss with us.

Ethical practice

All psychotherapists and supervisors at Therapy Nottingham work within the professional and ethical guidelines of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and/or the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). You can read more about these expectations on the respective websites.
